Laguna Canyon Road carries almost everyone in from the 405 and the 133, two lanes through the greenbelt that narrow and slow the nearer they get to the water. It empties onto Broadway in the middle of the village, and from there PCH runs a single lane each way past Main Beach, Heisler Park and the galleries. Summer Saturdays stretch that mile into a twenty-minute crawl with no way around it.
Laguna Beach and its one road
Parking has always been the hard part. Village structures fill by ten, meters on Forest and Ocean turn over slowly, and the residential streets above PCH are permit-only with enforcement that means it. Cliffside driveways off Cliff Drive and down toward Victoria Beach are short, steep and often shared, ruling out long wheelbases. The Montage keeps its own bluff south of the village with a proper motor court; the Victoria Beach tower is reached on foot, down a staircase.
The drive into Laguna Beach
Most drivers take the 405 to the 133 and drop down Laguna Canyon Road, about 85 minutes from Westchester; PCH from the north is prettier and slower. A morning booking is delivered that day, though a summer Saturday afternoon into the village needs slack built into the window. The Montage motor court is the cleanest meeting point, followed by a private driveway above PCH. Kerbside in the village during daylight simply does not work, since the lane is single-file. Expect a delivery fee from $100, itemised in the quote you approve.
Sizing a car for Laguna Beach
The BMW M4 Cabriolet is short enough for a cliffside driveway and quick through the canyon before traffic wakes up. Where does the handover happen if my rental has no driveway?
The Montage Laguna Beach motor court is the usual answer, and valet at other hotels in the village works identically. Failing that, guests are met at one of the structures off Forest Avenue and the paperwork is walked through there. Stopping on PCH is avoided, because the lane is single-file and pulling up genuinely blocks the town.
Are the cliffside driveways off Cliff Drive a problem for larger cars?
They can be. Many are short, steeply pitched and shared between two houses, so a long wheelbase either grounds on the transition or blocks a neighbour. A GLC 300, an M4 Cabriolet or the C 300 fits without difficulty. Send a photo of the driveway at booking and the right car goes on the truck first time.
What is the minimum rental period?
