Choosing an SUV: seats, boot, and clearance
Almost every SUV booking here comes down to three practical questions, and none of them is about performance. How many people, how much luggage behind them, and will it fit in the garage where you are staying.
Seats first. The BMW X7, Mercedes GLS 450, Jeep Grand Cherokee L and Honda Odyssey are the only cars we run with a genuinely usable third row and boot space behind it — most seven-seaters lose the boot once the back row is up. If you are four or fewer, the X5 and GLE 53 are better cars with more luggage space than any three-row equivalent.
Then clearance. Older Downtown and Hollywood garages post bars around 6'2", which the X5, X7, GLE 53 and Range Rover Sport all clear without thought. The Range Rover will lower further on air suspension. Send us the building and we will check the posted height before delivery rather than after you have driven into it.
