PCH runs straight through the flats and carries most of the load, which makes this the easiest of the three towns on this stretch to drive. King Harbor holds the boats, the launch ramp and the parking structures at the north end. The Esplanade sits on the bluff above the sand to the south, and Riviera Village keeps its own slower grid of low storefronts right on the Torrance line.
How Redondo Beach drives
Two things catch people out. The spiral ramp into the pier garage is tight, blind and unkind to a long wheelbase, and the kerb spaces along the Esplanade sit on a slope steep enough to matter when a heavy door swings open. Summer afternoons drag PCH between Torrance Boulevard and Palos Verdes Boulevard down to walking pace; leaving before eleven or after seven changes the whole day.
Where the keys change hands in Redondo Beach
Allow twenty to twenty-five minutes down Vista del Mar and Highland, or the 405 to Artesia when the coast road backs up. Keys change hands in the Harbor Drive surface lots, outside an address on Catalina Avenue in Riviera Village, or at whatever stretch of Esplanade kerb is legal that hour. Sundays included, and an hour or two of notice usually does it. The charge opens at $100 and your quote states it exactly; only LAX, Burbank and Beverly Hills are free.
The right car for Redondo Beach

Will a long car make it down the pier garage's spiral ramp?
A GLC or an X5 manages it with care; anything longer is happier in the surface lots on Harbor Drive or the Torrance Boulevard side. The ramp narrows to a single lane in places and the columns sit close to the line. On a summer weekend the queue to get back out runs several minutes, which is reason enough to park flat and walk the last block.
How long is the drive to Palos Verdes or back to LAX?
Palos Verdes Estates is about ten minutes up Palos Verdes Boulevard, and the full loop round the peninsula to Point Vicente takes roughly forty. LAX is twenty to twenty-five minutes back north outside peak, noticeably longer between four and seven. Collections are arranged the same way as deliveries, so an early flight is settled the evening before rather than in the morning scramble.
