Eucalyptus planted a century ago still shades most of the Covenant, and the lanes underneath it have no streetlights, no pavements and horse trails running along the verge. Paseo Delicias is the closest thing to a high street: a bank, a grocer, a couple of restaurants, and cars parked nose-in. The lanes of Rancho Santa Fe
Night driving out here is genuinely dark, and deer and horses both use the verge along Linea del Cielo. Del Dios Highway winds down towards Escondido with blind crests that punish an unfamiliar car. Estate driveways run long and gravelled, most of them ending at a gate with a call box. Rancho Valencia has its own arrival loop, and the roads in from Via de Santa Fe are narrow where the trees lean in.
How a car reaches Rancho Santa Fe
Rancho Santa Fe needs a day's notice. The drive is two hours to the Via de la Valle exit, then a quarter of an hour inland past the polo fields and up through the village on Paseo Delicias. Send the gate code or the name the guardhouse should expect when the booking is confirmed, and the car is left on the driveway itself or in the arrival court at Rancho Valencia. Do you need a gate code to deliver to an estate in the Covenant?
One of three things works: a code, a name left at the guardhouse, or someone at the house who answers the call box. Plenty of the lanes off Linea del Cielo and Via de Santa Fe finish at a private gate with no way through, and a driver idling beside an unlit hedge at dusk helps nobody. With access sorted, the drop lands on time.
Which car is easiest on the gravel drives here?
Anything with ground clearance. The Range Rover, Cullinan and G 63 all sit high enough for a quarter-mile of gravel, and none of them scrape at the lip where a drive meets the lane. A low supercar can be delivered to the Ranch, but it is worth parking it at the top of the drive rather than by the house.
What is the minimum rental period?

Is a credit card or a credit check required?
